Our goal was to map the context around the issue of segregation in our public school systems to better communicate why this issue matters. We modeled our problem as a system exploring potential opportunities for intervention .

Our proposed solution was a consortium of free public schools that leverage the cultural contributions of each borough. Students would have the opportunity to travel outside their home borough to experience the rich diversity of New York City in racially and economically mixed classrooms.

PROJECT

OVERVIEW

The U.S has a long history of racism that has deeply impacted our educational and schooling system. Public Schools in NYC and NJ are more segregated today than they were 64 years after the landmark case of Brown vs. Board of Education which ended segregated schooling “separate but equal”. While society has made large strides towards racial equality, our school systems have not caught up, and have produced deep divides along racial and economic lines.
